Creativity often begins with a new perspective: a surprising idea, an unexpected connection, or a different way to approach something familiar. That’s one reason so many people are interested in microdosing psilocybin.
Researchers are beginning to study that connection more closely. In a study published in Neuropharmacology, researchers combined results from three double-blind, placebo-controlled trials involving 171 participants. They found that people who received psilocybin microdoses produced a higher proportion of original ideas on a divergent-thinking task than people who received a placebo.
What is divergent thinking?
Divergent thinking means exploring several possible answers to a question instead of stopping at the first one. It’s the kind of thinking we use when brainstorming, making art, writing music, or finding a fresh approach to a problem.
That makes the study’s focus especially compelling. Researchers looked at the originality of participants’ responses, giving us a more specific way to explore a question people have asked for years: Could microdosing help support more flexible, creative thinking?
A fresh direction for microdosing research
For many people, the appeal of microdosing is subtlety. They’re curious about whether a small amount of psilocybin could influence how they engage with ideas and everyday experiences. This study adds an encouraging finding to that conversation and gives researchers a foundation for exploring creativity further.
At MushAccess, we’re excited to follow research that takes people’s curiosity about microdosing seriously. Each well-designed study helps bring a little more clarity to the conversation—and this one gives creative thinkers an interesting result to explore.
